Apple unveils iMac and 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by M6 chip

Both computers support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Orders will be accepted across 35 countries and regions. In the US, the entry-level iMac starts at $1,499, the higher-end version starts at $1,699, and the MacBook Pro starts at $1,999. According to 3DNews, the previous-generation laptop cost the same.

The iMac retains its slim enclosure and a 4.5K Retina display with a nominal 24-inch diagonal (23.5 inches actual). The M6 comes in two variants: with 10 or 12 CPU and GPU cores. Both base versions feature 16 GB of memory and a 256 GB SSD. According to Apple's measurements, compared to the M4 iMac, Excel workflows run up to 1.5 times faster, photo editing in Affinity is up to two times faster, and local AI prompts in LM Studio run up to five times faster. The higher-end version features four Thunderbolt 4 ports instead of two, 2.5 Gbps Ethernet, and a keyboard with Touch ID. For the base version, the wired port will cost an extra $30.

In the MacBook Pro, the M6 chip features 12 CPU and GPU cores each. The company claims a 30% increase in graphics performance and a 25% boost in AI task processing speeds compared to the M5. The laptop is equipped with a Liquid Retina XDR screen with up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness in HDR, 16 to 32 GB of memory, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, MagSafe 3, and an SDXC card slot. Battery life reaches up to 24 hours, according to Apple. With a 96W or higher power adapter, the battery charges to 50% in about 30 minutes. The laptop runs macOS 27.
