Apple Wallet adds eight Uzbek banks and fintech services

The list appeared when trying to add the ATTO transport card to Apple Wallet: the application notified that it is possible to link bank cards issued in Uzbekistan to it. The list includes Uzum and Hamkorbank (Visa), as well as Orient Finans Bank, National Bank of Uzbekistan, Kapitalbank, Ipak Yuli Bank, TBC Bank, and Octobank (Visa and Mastercard). Apple notes that individual banks may not support all types of cards, and the list will be updated. At the same time, the Apple Uzbekistan website does not yet have Uzbekistan among the countries with Apple Pay - this page was last updated on October 19.

On October 19, a Google Cloud representative announced the launch of Google Pay in Uzbekistan at a digital technology event in Samarkand as part of the C5+1 meetings. The Google website lists the country among those where the Google Wallet app and contactless payment work, but cards began to be connected to the service on October 27 as well. According to Anhor.uz, some social media users report successful card linking, while others encounter errors. There is no confirmed list of banks for Google Wallet and official confirmation of full support for HUMO and Uzcard cards at the time of publication.

On October 22, the Tourism Committee reported that Google Pay is already operational, and Apple Pay is expected in the coming days. According to the agency, the integration is being carried out by the Central Bank and commercial banks together with HUMO and Uzcard. On March 26, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law that, under certain conditions, allows storing and processing part of the personal data of citizens abroad; previous requirements for data localization were considered one of the obstacles to the arrival of these services.
