Buyers of foldable iPhone Duo complain of screen cracks along the fold line

A buyer from Australia told on Reddit that the screen cracked less than six hours after purchase. During this time, he unfolded the device less than 20 times. According to him, when opening, he felt something unusual at the hinge, then heard a crunch, and the screen was damaged exactly along the fold. There were no visible signs of impact or an object getting inside. Apple's support service offered him an express replacement, but for this, it was necessary to reserve the full price of the phone on a bank card, and the delivery times were not guaranteed. At the nearest Apple Store, they apologized and immediately issued a new device.

Another owner, as Kod.ru writes, noticed that after several unfoldings, the hinge became tighter, then a snap sounded, and the internal screen cracked. The smartphone was replaced for free at the Apple Store on the same day. There are also complaints about creaking and backlash of the mechanism about two and a half hours after purchase.

It is not yet clear how widespread the problem is. As Kod.ru reports, citing MacRumors, most of the published damage occurs in the fold area, but some photos were taken from demonstration devices of unknown origin. Some early tests for multiple folding did not reveal any malfunctions. There is no confirmation that the issue is with the hinge design, rather than a defect in individual specimens. Apple has not publicly commented on the complaints.
