Sony's Japanese division has stopped selling the UBP-X700/K model, its last standalone Ultra HD Blu-ray player, as of October 22, 2026.

On Sony's Japanese website, the device is marked as out of stock, with no new shipments expected. The company has not released a global press release, and there has been no announcement of a successor model. According to FlatpanelsHD, in the US, Europe, and other regions, the UBP-X700/K has not been officially discontinued.

The model was released in May 2025 and was a simplified version of the 2018 UBP-X700: it removed built-in streaming apps, including YouTube, but retained support for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, HDR10, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and DTS:X. Before being discontinued, the player cost 58,300 yen.

Among Sony devices in Japan, only the PlayStation 5 with a disc drive can now play UHD Blu-ray discs, although it does not support Dolby Vision when playing discs. The BDP-S1700/K player for regular Blu-ray and one DVD player model remain on sale. Previously, Sony had exited the market for separate CD and SACD players, and in February 2026, it announced that it would discontinue Blu-ray recorder shipments. The company has also announced that it will stop releasing physical game media from January 2028.

Of the major electronics brands, only Panasonic continues to sell UHD Blu-ray players; new manufacturers, mostly Chinese, are also entering this market.
