The Browser Company has announced that the Arc browser will cease to operate on December 22, 2026, and users are advised to switch to Dia, another browser developed by the company.

The Browser Company has cited security concerns as the reason for discontinuing Arc. According to the company, Dia was designed with modern security requirements in mind, and therefore, engineers and security specialists will focus solely on it. "To keep a browser secure, constant work is required, and in the era of AI, this work will only increase," the company stated.

The shutdown will occur in three stages. As of October 22, new accounts will no longer be registered in Arc, and the latest version has introduced a data export feature. On November 23, the mobile Arc Search for iOS and Android will disable features such as Browse for Me and other AI-based functions, as well as account login and tab synchronization. The app will remain a browser, albeit in a simplified form on iOS and until December 22 on Android. On December 22, the desktop versions for macOS and Windows will cease to function, accounts will be deactivated, and personal data will be deleted within 30 days. The Arc Search for Android will also be removed from Google Play and devices.

When transitioning to Dia, passwords, bookmarks, history, extensions, and tabs will be transferred. Spaces will be converted to profiles, folders to groups of tabs, and a sidebar with vertical tabs will be available. The company claims that familiar Arc features are free in Dia, and using AI is not mandatory. For those who do not plan to switch, the company recommends exporting tabs as a list of links through Arc settings before December 22.

The company stopped releasing new features for Arc in 2025, shifting its focus to Dia, and was acquired by Atlassian for $610 million in the same year. As noted by Habr, in May 2025, the company's co-founder, Josh Miller, publicly stated that Arc would not be shut down.

On December 22, Arc will cease to function on macOS and Windows, and personal data will be deleted within 30 days. Data can be transferred to Dia or exported as a list of links until December 22.
