New Year 2027 days off in Uzbekistan: from 31 December to 3 January
For New Year, under a five-day working week in Uzbekistan there will be four days off in a row: from Thursday, 31 December 2026 to Sunday, 3 January 2027, whilst Saturday, 12 December will be a working day. Under a six-day working week, the days off are 31 December, 1 and 3 January, whilst Saturday, 2 January is a working day.
| Working week | Days off | In a row | Working Saturday |
|---|---|---|---|
| Five-day | 31 December (Thursday) – 3 January (Sunday) | 4 days | 12 December |
| Six-day | 31 December (Thursday), 1 January (Friday), 3 January (Sunday) | 2 days, then a working Saturday on 2 January | none: Saturdays are already working days |
What the decree says
The New Year days were established by presidential decree No. UP-257 of 24 December 2025 — the same one that set the days off and transfers for all of 2026. Where each day comes from:
- 31 December, Thursday. Under a five-day working week, the day off from Saturday, 12 December moves to this day (paragraph 3 of the decree). Under a six-day working week, this is an additional day off (sub-item “b” (ii) of paragraph 1).
- 1 January, Friday. The “New Year” public holiday under Article 208 of the Labour Code, for everyone. It does not coincide with a day off, so there is no transfer.
- 2 January, Saturday. Under a five-day working week — a regular day off. Under a six-day working week — a working day: the code designates only 1 January as a public holiday, and decree No. UP-257 expires on 1 January 2027 (paragraph 8) and does not set days for 2027.
- 3 January, Sunday. A common day off under both working weeks (Article 207).
The decree does not divide employees into public-sector and private organisations: paragraph 3 applies to everyone working a five-day week, paragraph 1 — to everyone working a six-day week.
If the schedule is different
Those who work in continuous production, daily public services, rotational shift work, or on a shift schedule receive days off on different days of the week according to the schedule (Article 207), and working on a public holiday is permitted for such employees (Article 209). The decree says nothing separately about 31 and 12 December for such schedules: rest days are determined by the employer’s schedule. Work on 1 January is paid at least at double the rate, or at the employee’s request — at the single rate with another day off (Article 263).
The decree specifies Saturday as the transferred day. The second day off in a five-day working week is designated by a collective agreement or internal work regulations (Article 207); if for you this is not Saturday, check with your employer how the transfer will take place.
On the eve of a public holiday, the working day is shorter by at least an hour (Article 187). For those who work on 31 December according to a schedule, their shift is shorter by at least an hour, and where it cannot be reduced, the overtime is compensated with rest or payment (the same article). Whether Wednesday, 30 December is reduced if the 31st is a day off is not explicitly stated in either the decree or the code: this should be clarified with the employer.
Working Saturday on 12 December
Under a five-day working week, Saturday, 12 December 2026, is a working day: the day off from it is transferred to 31 December. That week still has five working days: Tuesday, 8 December, is Constitution Day, a public holiday, and Monday, 7 December, is shorter by at least an hour under Article 187. Under a six-day working week, 12 December is a regular working Saturday.
Schools
For school pupils, the New Year days fall during the winter holidays: under Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 140, they run from 28 December 2026 to 10 January 2027. For more details — see the reference page on school holidays.
All public holidays, transfers, and the number of working days are in the work calendars for 2026 and 2027.
Questions and answers
How many days off are there for New Year in Uzbekistan?
Under a five-day working week — four days in a row, from 31 December 2026 to 3 January 2027; in return, Saturday, 12 December will be a working day. Under a six-day working week — three days off: 31 December, 1 and 3 January, whilst Saturday, 2 January is a working day.
Is 31 December a day off?
Yes, under both working weeks. Under a five-day working week, the day off from Saturday, 12 December moves to Thursday, 31 December (paragraph 3 of decree No. UP-257); under a six-day working week, this is an additional day off (paragraph 1 of the same decree). Those who work on a shift schedule rest according to their schedule.
Is 2 January a day off?
Under a five-day working week — yes, it is a Saturday. Under a six-day working week — a working day: under the Labour Code, only 1 January is a public holiday. In 2026, 2 January was a day off for everyone under decree No. UP-257, but that decree does not set days for 2027.
When is the working Saturday before the New Year?
12 December 2026, only under a five-day working week. Under a six-day working week, Saturday is already a working day.
Will there be any more additional days off?
It is not yet known. The decree on days off for the following year is usually issued at the end of December: UP-257 was signed on 24 December 2025, and presidential resolution No. PP-452 on New Year days — on 24 December 2024. As of 6 November, we found no draft decree for 2027 on the draft discussion portal regulation.adliya.uz. A new decree may add days off — for example, Saturday, 2 January for a six-day working week, just as UP-257 did with Saturday, 3 January 2026 — but it might not. 1 January will remain a public holiday by law, whilst 31 December and the working Saturday of 12 December have already been established by the current decree. We will update the reference page when the decree for 2027 is published.
