A 21-year-old woman died in Karshi ten days after undergoing endoscopic surgery to remove a pituitary tumour, the Kashkadarya Regional Health Department said, while the prosecutor's office is conducting a pre-investigation check.

According to the department, the Karshi resident, born in 2005, was admitted to the neurosurgery department of the Kashkadarya Regional Multidisciplinary Hospital on October 14, where she was diagnosed with a pituitary adenoma. Doctors stated that for several years she had suffered from breathing difficulties, stunted growth, and enlargement of her fingers and toes. An examination revealed a large pituitary tumour, and hormone tests showed growth hormone levels significantly above normal.

The surgery was performed on October 16: the tumour was removed endoscopically through the nose, with the participation of a specialist from Tashkent. According to the department, an examination on October 19 revealed no complications. The following day, her condition deteriorated sharply: her blood pressure spiked, and she developed impairments in consciousness, respiration, and cardiac function. The patient received intensive care, but died on October 26.

The health department did not specify the cause of death in its statement. As noted by Podrobno.uz, following the spread of the news on social networks, assumptions were voiced about a possible medical error. The prosecutor's office is establishing the circumstances of the incident, and the department pledged to provide additional information following the probe.
