Area behind National Library in Tashkent to be improved

The hokim of Tashkent, Shavkat Umarzakov, has approved the terms of public-private partnership for the improvement of the territory and creation of a paid parking lot behind the Alisher Navoi National Library.

The project is planned on a 1.3-hectare (13,000 square meters) site on Istiklol Street in the "Kashkar" makhalla of the Yunusabad district. The right to conclude an agreement for a period of 10 years will be put up for electronic auction with a starting price of 514.2 million soums. The investor is required to invest at least 10 billion soums and launch the project within three months.

The PPP terms prohibit capital construction and the cutting down of growing trees. The project provides for the planting of over a thousand trees and shrubs, the construction of a new 720-meter-long sidewalk, the laying of pedestrian and bicycle paths, the organization of recreation areas, sports and children's playgrounds, as well as food points made of light structures. In addition, the private partner must provide at least two electric vehicles of the buggy or golf cart type for transporting visitors.

The parking system will be equipped with boards with information about free spaces and integrated with the "Pullik to‘xtash joyi" information system. Tariffs will be coordinated with the city administration. At the request of the authorities, the territory can be used for city holidays and festivals for up to 60 days a year.
