The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis stated that there is no bill on criminal liability for "virginity capsules" and hymenoplasty surgeries. The chamber was responding to posts circulating on social media.

The chamber's statement reads: "No such draft law exists in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. It has not been submitted for consideration and is not being discussed."

Prior to this, reports on social media claimed that liability would allegedly be introduced for doctors performing such surgeries, as well as for those selling, delivering, or ordering the capsules. Some posts mentioned a prison term of up to 20 years. The authors claimed that the issue had supposedly been discussed in parliament due to a high number of divorces, and that the state would allegedly pay a reward to citizens who report such cases to law enforcement agencies.

As an argument, the posts cited a figure of 187,000 young women over the past five years. The authors provided no confirmation for this statistic.

The chamber urged citizens not to spread unverified information, to check it against official sources, and to learn about legislative initiatives through the parliament's official channels.

What it means

According to the Legislative Chamber, there is no bill on criminal liability for the sale, delivery, and ordering of "virginity capsules" or for hymenoplasty surgeries, and no such bill is under discussion. The chamber recommends checking news about legislative initiatives through its official channels.
