Construction of a residential area for 50,000 people has begun in Nukus. The "Novy Uzbekistan" ("Nukus City") complex is being built near Lake Ashikul. This was announced by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at a meeting on the development of Karakalpakstan.

The complex will occupy an area of 270 hectares in the northeast of the city. According to the head of state, with the involvement of foreign investors, it is planned to build high-rise buildings, business, trade and service complexes, as well as create green zones using energy-saving technologies.

The meeting also discussed the development of the urban environment in Karakalpakstan. The President noted that on Mustakillik Street in Nukus, a 24-hour zone has been created where 28 enterprises have opened and 50 have expanded their business, resulting in a doubling of weekly revenue. In addition, the mahallas "Nur" and "Elabod" are to be improved according to the example of the Tashkent mahalla "Kichkirk", with the local park to be reconstructed by the Navruz holiday.

In the Kegeyli district, on the site of a closed canal 3.5 kilometers long, construction of 100 service facilities has begun, where it is planned to employ up to 320 people. The khokims of the regions have been instructed to implement similar improvement projects on at least one street and in one mahalla of the assigned districts before Navruz.
