Tashkent khokim Shavkat Umarzakov signed a resolution on dedicated bus lanes (BRT) on four sections of city streets with a total length of 17.9 km on October 29.

The longest section, 6.3 km, will be on Mirzo Ulugbek Avenue (Mirzo-Ulugbek district). The section on Mukimi Street (Yakkasaray and Chilanzar districts) will be 4.6 km long. In the Shaykhantakhur district, 4.2 km of lanes are planned on Karatash and Kukcha-Darvoza streets, and 2.8 km on Parkentskaya Street (Mirzo-Ulugbek district).

Toshkent Invest kompaniyasi has been appointed as the contractor for the work. The company will have to select a general designer, general contractor, and technical supervision organization, as well as obtain positive conclusions from the state institution "Center for Improving Project Efficiency and Procurement".

The funds for the work will be provided by commercial bank loans, the Road and Transport Infrastructure Development Fund of the Tashkent khokimiyat, and the Tashkent City Development Fund. From the latter, 6.5 billion soums will be preliminarily allocated for project documentation and the customer's expenses; after the conclusion of the center, the amount will be recalculated, and the remainder will be returned to the fund.

Engineering networks must be built, relocated, or repaired before the start of road repairs - this has been entrusted to the khokim's deputies, Abdurakhmon Bakhtiyev and Obidjon Muminov, together with the communal services. Wells and communications are being put in order at the expense of their balance holders. Traffic may be temporarily restricted on certain sections if necessary.

What it means

The work will affect Mirzo Ulugbek Avenue and Mukimi, Karatash, Kukcha-Darvoza, and Parkentskaya streets. Temporary traffic restrictions are possible on certain sections during the work. The creation of BRT lanes on Shahrisabz, Amir Temur, and Yangi Sergeli streets is planned for late November and early December 2026.
