Kengash of Tashkent approved the project of purchasing 14 trains for the metro

The Tashkent city Kengash of people's deputies approved the concept of purchasing 14 five-car trains - a total of 70 cars - for the city's metro. The need for the acquisition is due to the wear and tear of some of the old cars, which have been in use for several decades, as well as the growth of the annual passenger traffic from 136.7 million people in 2022 to 287 million in 2025. The option of six-car trains was rejected, as they do not fit on the shortest station platforms and would require the reconstruction of stations.

The document compared the proposals of manufacturers from seven countries: China, Russia, France, Spain, the Czech Republic, South Korea, and Japan. The Chinese CRRC showed the lowest delivery price with shipping ($118.3 million), while the Japanese Kawasaki showed the highest ($279.1 million). Official commercial proposals were received from CRRC and the Russian "Global Transport Solutions", while Siemens notified of its inability to supply trains with the requested characteristics. The other options were evaluated based on open sources.

The supplier has not been determined yet. If a manufacturer from outside Russia wins, a separate depot and service base will be needed for maintenance, which has been preliminary estimated at $10.13 million excluding expenses for the site, design, and organization of work. The purchase is planned to be financed through loans with repayment from the state budget, and the delivery is intended to be carried out in three batches by November 1, 2027.
