Samsung Refrigerators Failed in South Korea After Software Update

A malfunction began on September 22. Owners of the devices complained that after installing the update, the devices froze, stopped responding to commands, the internal lighting went out, or the supply of cold air stopped. Restarting through disconnecting from the power grid did not restore the operation. The problem mainly affected Bespoke AI 4-Door models released since 2024, including RM70F and RM80F.

Samsung Electronics reported that the cause of the incident was the sending of a file intended for internal testing to users. The manufacturer emphasized that the malfunction is not related to a defect in the hardware or malfunctions of the SmartThings platform.

The company apologized and recommended contacting service centers to call specialists, as it is impossible to fix the refrigerators remotely. Samsung organized an emergency repair team and left some engineers on duty, since the breakdown occurred on the eve of the national holiday Chuseok, for which residents were buying products. The exact number of faulty devices has not been disclosed yet.
