iFixit assessed iPhone 18 Pro repairability at 7 points out of 10

Specialists of the iFixit service dismantled the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max smartphones and assessed their repairability at 7 points out of 10.

During the disassembly, experts noted difficulties in opening: the plastic frame of the display was damaged on three out of four tested devices. The specialists pointed out that this could disrupt the screen's fit and reduce the body's tightness level. iFixit suggested that the deformation of the frame could be caused by the updated thermal system, which dissipates heat during the softening of the glue.

The new variable aperture mechanism of the main camera consists of six petals controlled by electromagnets. When disassembling, one of the petals fell out, which led the specialists to conclude that the node is not subject to component-wise restoration: in case of its jamming, it will be necessary to completely replace the camera module. The USB-C connector also fell into the category of hard-to-repair parts, the replacement of which requires the extraction of almost all internal components of the device.

The experts attributed the positive aspects of the design to the battery without adhesive strips, modular camera units, and the revamped cooling system. The area of the chip's A20 Pro vapor chamber has increased approximately three times compared to the iPhone 17 Pro, and the crystal of the operational memory has been removed from the processor's thermal path. In addition, the infrared camera Face ID in the new generation has been placed under the display, partially thinning out the rows of pixels above the sensor.
