Shavkat Mirziyoyev begins two-day visit to Bukhara region

According to the press service, the itinerary includes reviewing efforts to preserve historical heritage, developing tourism infrastructure, as well as industrial and agricultural projects. The president will take part in ceremonies launching new facilities and starting the construction of others. A meeting dedicated to the comprehensive development of the region is also scheduled.

The trip began in the Kagan district, where the head of state visited the Bahauddin Naqshband mausoleum. Surahs from the Quran and duas for the peace and well-being of the people were recited there. Bahauddin Naqshband was a 14th-century theologian and founder of the Naqshbandi Sufi order. The architectural complex around the mausoleum receives an average of about 15,000 visitors a day and, as part of the "Silk Roads: Zarafshan-Karakum Corridor" site, is included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. In recent years, based on 15th-century drawings, the madrasah of Daniyalbiy ataliq and the Toki Miyona gates were restored there, and a museum exposition and a research center were opened.

During the visit, Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that Bukhara has for centuries been of great importance for the development of enlightened Islam, and this spiritual heritage needs to be studied deeply and used in educating young people. According to him, the creation of the Center for Islamic Civilization, as well as the Imam Bukhari and Imam Maturidi complexes, is aimed at continuing the scientific tradition of ancestors and passing on the knowledge they accumulated to younger generations.
