Ministry of Transport launches new Urgench - Khiva trolleybuses from October 27

According to the ministry, the interval between departures on this route will be reduced from 25 to 12 minutes. The trolleybuses will run on the restored line: from Urgench International Airport through the city's railway station to Khiva's station. The transportation is planned to be organized using the gross contract system.

The launch was announced on October 25, when a new building of the "Khorezm Trolleybus Park" (Xorazm Trolleybus Saroyi) was opened in Urgench; the depot has also been updated, and another one is being built in Khiva. As the Khorezm Regional Transport Department clarified, drivers have undergone training to work with the new equipment and have passed exams.

The Yutong trolleybuses were shown to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during his trip to Khorezm in August. Each trolleybus is designed for 87 passengers and, thanks to batteries, can travel up to 100 km without a contact network. The vehicles are equipped with a fire suppression system, lane control and driver monitoring devices, video surveillance cameras, USB and Type-C ports.

As Gazeta.uz notes, Khorezm region remains the only region in the country with trolleybuses, and the Urgench - Khiva line, 35.6 km long one way, is one of the two intercity lines in the world. It was opened in 1998, and the route was later shortened from the airport to the central market of Urgench. Currently, Skoda trolleybuses purchased in 2013 are operating on this line: out of nine vehicles, eight are constantly in operation. According to the publication, there are ten new trolleybuses.
