The Committee for Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights has started studying taxi service tariffs and signs of possible unfair competition.

The Committee for Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights has begun examining the tariffs of taxi services and signs of possible unfair competition. According to the regulatory body, the reason for this was complaints from citizens about the multiple increase in the cost of trips during peak hours among competing platforms during technical failures in the work of major services. The agency intends to assess the legitimacy of price increases and check compliance with relevant legislation.

The Committee called on companies to adjust their pricing algorithms to exclude artificial price spikes. Aggregators are also required to establish uninterrupted payment of funds to drivers, remove unjustified blocks from their profiles, recalculate and pay bonuses for completed orders, and organize round-the-clock support services for passengers and taxi drivers.

The agency emphasized that price formation and service provision should be based on transparent conditions. If facts of consumer rights infringement or antimonopoly law violations are confirmed, the regulator will conduct inspections and apply measures of responsibility.

What it means

The regulator demanded that taxi aggregators exclude artificial price spikes from their algorithms, provide round-the-clock technical support, and resolve drivers' issues with payments and blocks.
