Atari and Retro Games Unveil Updated 800XL Computer

Atari and Retro Games have announced THE 800XL, a modern replica of the 8-bit home computer Atari 800XL, released in 1983.

The device will be manufactured by Plaion. The model retains a full-size mechanical keyboard, a built-in Atari BASIC programming language, and a slot for original cartridges. The computer is compatible with programs for 8-bit Atari 400, 800, XL, and XE systems, as well as the Atari 5200 console. Additionally, it supports loading software from USB drives.

The new device has 25 games built into its memory, including Asteroids, Berzerk, Centipede, and Missile Command, and two additional games are available for unlocking when an analog controller is connected. Modern features have been added for gameplay: four save slots and the ability to rewind time. For connection to modern displays, an HDMI port with support for 4:3 modes and display filters is provided, as well as four USB-A ports.

The package includes a modernized joystick with additional buttons. The computer is available for pre-order at a price of $220 (according to 3DNews - $246.60), and the start of shipments is scheduled for April 23, 2027.
