LG Electronics has jointly developed with Apple a series of devices for a smart home, which will go on sale under the LG brand. This was reported by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg.

The new lineup will include a video call, smart door lock, room thermostat, auxiliary temperature sensor, street and indoor surveillance cameras, as well as a camera with a built-in spotlight. LG will be responsible for the production and maintenance of the equipment, while Apple participated in the creation of the engineering part, functions and design. Both companies declined to comment.

The equipment has received support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless interfaces, Matter and Thread standards, as well as compatibility with Apple's smart home ecosystem. The door lock has integrated ultra-wideband (UWB) communication technology, which allows the front door to be unlocked when the user approaches with a smartphone or wearable device.

LG has already submitted applications for certification of these devices to the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and UL Solutions. The release of devices to the market is expected in a few months: the manufacturer asked the regulator not to disclose photos and detailed characteristics of the devices until the beginning of next year.

What it means

The devices will operate under the LG brand and provide direct integration with Apple's ecosystem and voice control through Matter and Thread protocols; their appearance on the market is expected within a few months.
