Google has launched the Playground service for creating games using AI. The company presented an experimental browser platform Playground, which allows creating games from text descriptions without programming skills. The service works through a dialog interface: the user formulates an idea, after which they can configure rules, physics, characters, and environment using text commands. Development can be carried out from scratch or based on ready-made templates. Created projects are launched directly in the browser, they are allowed to be saved for personal use, sent via a link, or published in the general Playground Explore gallery. For a number of genres, a multiplayer mode and leaderboards are provided. The platform operates on the basis of Google Gemini, Nano Banana, and Lyria models, supplemented by a specialized game generation system. Basic access to Playground is provided free of charge, and for Google One subscribers, increased weekly token limits are provided. At the current stage, the web service is only open to adult users from the USA. In parallel, Google and Unity announced the Unity Spark tool, the closed beta testing of which is scheduled before the end of the year; in the future, projects created in it can be published in Playground.

What it means

The service is currently available only to users over 18 years old in the US. Access is provided for free, with extended weekly limits available by subscription to Google One.
