Uzbekistan and IAF signed a document to hold IAC-2028 in Samarkand

Uzbekistan and the International Astronautical Federation signed an agreement to hold the 79th International Astronautical Congress in Samarkand in 2028.

A ceremony was held in Antalya as part of the 77th International Astronautical Congress (IAC), the Uzbekcosmos agency and the UzA national news agency reported. The document was signed by the president of the federation, Gabriella Arrigo, and the Minister of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan, Sherzod Shermatov. The event was also attended by the director of the Uzbekcosmos agency, Shukhrat Kadyrov, and the head of the NNO Alliance of Artificial Intelligence, Aziz Mukhitdinov (Mukhidinov).

The signed document regulates the further preparation of infrastructure and the formation of the congress program. The IAC-2028 congress is scheduled to take place in Samarkand from October 9 to 13, 2028, and will be the first such forum in Central Asia. The decision to choose Samarkand was approved by the IAF General Assembly in Sydney in October 2025.

In addition, on October 6, as part of the congress in Antalya, representatives of Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Turkey signed the first cooperation agreement in the space sphere within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States.

What it means

The congress will take place in Samarkand from October 9 to 13, 2028; the parties must prepare the infrastructure for foreign delegations and form the forum program.
