American company Qualcomm and Chinese company Huawei have signed a multi-year agreement on cross-licensing and patent transfer in the fields of 5G, artificial intelligence, and network technologies. Huawei reported this.

The agreement provides for the mutual use of both parties' patent portfolios. In addition, Qualcomm will acquire certain US-registered patents related to computing, AI, and data transmission technologies from Huawei. The agreement between the companies covers 5G generation technologies for the first time. At the same time, Qualcomm denied reports regarding the licensing of LogicFolding technology from the Chinese company.

The parties do not disclose the financial terms of the current deal, noting that the cooperation is limited to intellectual property matters. Alan Fan, Huawei's head of intellectual property, noted that the deal reflects the value of the company's innovations and recognizes Qualcomm's contribution to modern communications.

Taking the signed agreement into account, the total amount of Huawei's licensing contracts has exceeded $6.9 billion since 2011. According to information from the Chinese company, by the end of 2025, its global patent portfolio numbered more than 165 thousand active patents, and the number of concluded licensing agreements exceeded 260.
