The updates will be available to PC users on October 22, and on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, they will be released on October 29. The developers clarified that this is not about remakes or remasters, but about graphical patches for the existing Redux editions. Owners of the games will not need to pay extra for them.

On consoles of the current generation, the games will offer two modes: working in native 4K resolution at 60 frames per second or scaling up to 4K at 120 frames per second. The projects will overhaul lighting, particle system and shadows, add 4K quality textures, and also implement support for DualSense and Xbox gamepad features. For the PC version, support for DLSS technology, spatial sound, and unlimited frame rate is announced.

The release of the patches is timed to coincide with the overcoming of the mark of 50 million copies of Metro series games sold. Currently, the studio is also developing the next part of the franchise, called Metro 2039.
