The Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services reported on October 22 that 61 illegally constructed high-rise buildings were found in Tashkent, and apologized for the previously announced figure of over 720 buildings.

According to the updated data from the ministry, a total of more than 320 objects of illegal construction have been identified in the capital. In addition to high-rises, these include private residential houses, small shops, kiosks, pavilions, and other structures. The ministry explained that previously, the total number of such objects was incorrectly reported as the number of high-rise buildings. "We apologize for the error", the ministry's statement reads. Journalists and authors of publications on social networks were asked to rely on the new data.

On October 13, Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services Sherzod Khidoyatov spoke about more than 720 houses during the "Government Hour" in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, answering questions from deputies. According to him, before the approval of the general plan of Tashkent at the end of 2024, many entrepreneurs built housing on plots put up for auction, including without permits from architectural authorities. The minister reported that the General Prosecutor's Office is dealing with problematic objects.

Khidoyatov also said that the issue of putting such houses into operation can be considered after the expansion of the renovation program and the creation of the necessary infrastructure around them, including children's playgrounds and parking lots. The strength of the buildings, he said, will be checked using instrumental surveys.
