In the Tashkent Botanical Garden, an artificial reservoir is being created

Landscaping work in the Tashkent Botanical Garden on a 50 hundredths plot is being carried out to create an artificial reservoir. The Academy of Sciences and the garden administration denied reports of tree felling.

The earthworks on the garden territory caused concern among social media users. As reported by the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, the reservoir is being placed in a buffer zone that does not belong to the scientific collection. This area had cattails and blackberries growing, and there were no trees from the collection. The garden's chief dendrologist, Atyrgul Kholmirzaeva, explained to Gazeta.uz that there was no felling, and only dry parts of trees are being removed from the territory with the involvement of experts from the Research Institute of Forestry.

According to the information from the khokimiyat of the Yunusabad district, the area of the lake will be 0.5 hectares, and the volume will be 10 thousand cubic meters. The project also provides for the creation of a pedestrian and bicycle path 1.2 km long and the planting of 180 additional trees. The chief dendrologist noted that aquatic plants will be planted in the reservoir, and decorative shrubs will be planted along the banks. The completion of construction is scheduled for the end of the year.
