Tashkent rose 128 positions in Global Cities Index 2026

Oxford Economics also included Tashkent in the list of 28 Cities to Watch, which have the potential for further growth. In the overall ranking, the city scored 50 points out of 100. The capital made the most significant leap in the "Economy" category, moving from 558th to 188th place with a score of 54.7 points.

In the "Human Capital" direction, Tashkent ranked 108th (61.5 points). As the city's hokimiyat press service noted, in 2024 the capital was in 136th place, and in 2025 - in 123rd. Among the advantages, analysts highlighted the geographical location and qualified personnel, while also pointing to the risks of a brain drain due to the low per capita GDP and environmental pressure, including a shortage of water resources.

In other categories, the city's indicators were lower: in terms of "Quality of Life", Tashkent ranked 644th (47.5 points), in "Environment" - 806th (45.1 points), and in "Management" - 825th (40.2 points). Among the megacities of Central Asia, Almaty ranked 265th, Astana - 281st, Bishkek - 461st, Ashgabat - 668th, and Dushanbe - 672nd. The top three in the world ranking were New York, London, and Paris.
