Mirziyoyev Proposed a Program of Food Cooperation

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has proposed the creation of a food cooperation program between landlocked countries and transit states. This is stated in his address to the participants of international conferences in Tashkent.

The head of state called for the development of the initiative to begin with the countries of Central Asia. According to him, the food security of states without access to the sea is negatively affected by high transportation costs and difficulties in transit countries. In this regard, Uzbekistan advocates for the freedom of trade and logistics chains, as well as the simplification of food transportation rules.

The President also proposed that international financial institutions and investors implement joint projects for the cold storage, processing, and transportation of food products. He added that by 2030, Uzbekistan intends to double its food production, as well as triple the volume of its exports and added value.

According to the data from the FAO cited in the address, more than 645 million people in the world are hungry, and if no measures are taken, this figure may grow to 1 billion people by 2028. The events dedicated to World Cotton Day and food security issues, held on October 7-8 in Tashkent, are attended by representatives of more than 30 countries.
