General Prosecutor's Office disputes decision on development of plot of house No. 7 on Babur Street

The General Prosecutor's Office of Uzbekistan has filed a lawsuit to recognize as illegal the decision of the former khokim of Tashkent, by which the plot under house No. 7 on Babur Street was given for demolition and development. The building itself has not been demolished and remains under protection. This was reported by the press service of the Agency for Cultural Heritage.

Earlier, in early September, the agency applied to the supervisory authority for a legal assessment of the decision of the former mayor Jakhongir Artikhodzhayev dated October 30, 2018, No. 1550. By this act, the plot under the 1936 building was transferred to Universal packing masters for demolition and construction of a multi-storey residential complex.

The General Prosecutor's Office agreed with the agency's arguments on the need to protect the monument and transferred the case to the judicial plane. The Agency for Cultural Heritage clarified that until all legal disputes are resolved, the object continues to be under state protection and constant surveillance.

The building is included in the National List of Material Cultural Heritage. In August 2007, the former khokim of the capital, Abdulkahar Tukhtayev, excluded it from the list of protected objects, but in early 2021, the Tashkent Interdistrict Administrative Court overturned this decree, after which the Cabinet of Ministers returned the building's protected status.
