Tashkent Approves €174m Pediatric Oncology Project

The Tashkent city Kengash of people's deputies approved the concept of modernizing the system of oncological assistance to children on October 8, with a preliminary cost estimated at 174 million euros. The main events are planned to be held at the Republican Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Immunology. 139 million euros are planned to be allocated for the construction and equipment of a new medical and diagnostic block, as well as the reconstruction of existing buildings. Another 35 million euros are allocated for the development of the International Academic Hub for Childhood Cancer, including scientific research and doctor training.

In the new building, it is planned to develop radiation therapy and nuclear medicine: the preliminary plan for equipment includes four linear accelerators, two MRI machines, a PET/CT complex and a cyclotron for the preparation of radiopharmaceuticals. In the existing complex, it is planned to update the polyclinic, reception, surgical and hospital departments, as well as equip a day hospital with 56 beds for chemotherapy.

The implementation of the program is scheduled for 2027-2030. To cover expenses, it is planned to attract a long-term loan from an international financial organization, but the specific lender and financing terms have not been determined yet.
