In Uzbekistan, it is proposed to label drinks by sugar level

According to the document published for discussion, the requirements will apply to both domestically produced and imported soft drinks. The designation is planned to be applied to the front side of the packaging, with the text occupying at least 15% of its total area. Additionally, a QR code with information on the composition, calorie content, and daily norm is provided on the packaging.

The project provides for three gradations of inscriptions per 100 ml of drink. With a sugar content of 5 to 8 grams, the warning "Medium sugar content" is applied, from 8 to 11 grams - "High sugar content". With an indicator of 11 grams or more, the packaging will be required to be labeled with white text on a red background: "Very high sugar content - frequent consumption is harmful to health".

By March 1, 2027, it is planned to approve a single methodology for laboratory analysis, and by September 1 - to organize checks in accredited laboratories. The Ministry of Health also proposes to quarterly publish a register of drinks with excess of the indicators established by the project. By December 1, 2027, it is planned to create a digital monitoring platform, and by January 1, 2028 - to introduce electronic declaration of sugar content for imports with a ban on the import of non-compliant products.

In case of adoption of the document, the requirements will come into force on January 1, 2027, and in the country's educational institutions, the sale of drinks with non-compliant labeling will be gradually restricted.
