Conference on Trans-Caspian corridor opens in Tashkent

The second national conference on the Trans-Caspian transport corridor opened in Tashkent on 30 September. This was reported by the Ministry of Transport and the government portal of Uzbekistan.

The forum participants are discussing the attraction of investments in transport infrastructure, project financing, as well as reforms to increase the efficiency of the route and strengthen the role of Uzbekistan in communication between Central Asia and Europe. The conference is attended by Minister of Transport of the Republic Ilhom Makhkamov, Director of the European Commission for Asia, Central Asia and the Pacific Peteris Ustubs, representatives of the private sector, international financial institutions and development partners.

At the conference, the first deputy chairman of the board of JSC "Uzbekiston temir yullari" H. Rakhmetov made a presentation on the country's transit potential. A day earlier, on 29 September, the leadership of the railway company held a meeting with Peteris Ustubs and EU Ambassador to Uzbekistan Toivo Klaar, where the parties agreed to continue systematic cooperation on promising projects and increasing the corridor's capacity with the support of international institutions.

Meanwhile, at the Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, negotiations were held with the head of the International Trade Centre department Elena Butrimova as part of the "Ready4Trade Central Asia: a path to prosperity through the Trans-Caspian transport corridor" project, funded by the European Union. The parties considered the status of the "Seamless Transit" initiative with Kazakhstan, a pilot electronic exchange of certificates of origin with Tajikistan, the modernization of the electronic queue at the border and the introduction of an integrated risk management system.
