Trans-Caspian corridor's share in Uzbekistan's trade with EU grows to 28%

The director of the Center for the Study of Transport and Logistics Development under the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan, Bekzod Holmatov, announced this at a seminar in Tashkent organized by the Ministry of Transport, the EU, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

At the meeting, business and government representatives pointed to difficulties in transportation: the shallowing of the Caspian Sea, queues at ports, high tariffs, and differences in border procedures. To simplify transportation, electronic systems e-Permit and e-TIR are being introduced in parallel. As EU Ambassador Toivo Klaar emphasized, the corridor is included in the strategic directions of the European Global Gateway initiative.

The next stage of discussion will be the second national conference on the Trans-Caspian corridor, scheduled for September 30 in Tashkent. According to the press service of the EU Delegation to Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Transport and the European Commission's Directorate-General for International Partnerships will discuss investments in railways and roads, as well as the digitalization of documents.
