The company Tesla has demonstrated an updated version of the electric sports car Roadster of the second generation, the production of which is scheduled to start in 2028.

During the presentation in Texas, the manufacturer showed a prototype of the sports car equipped with jet nozzles operating on compressed gas. The car was able to briefly lift off the ground and perform a rotation in the air. According to the company's statement, the nozzles, which develop a thrust of 80 kilonewtons, are responsible for acceleration. During the demonstration, the car accelerated to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h) in 0.81 seconds, while the manufacturer also claimed acceleration of less than 0.59 seconds, and the maximum speed is estimated at approximately 370 km/h.

The car's design includes an active anti-wing and a system for creating downforce using fans under the bottom. A total of three configurations are announced, including a single-seat Rocket modification with ten nozzles and compressed air tanks with a volume of up to 600 liters, which is not allowed on public roads. The other two versions are designed for two passengers.

The first demonstration of the new generation Roadster was held back in November 2017, but the production launch has been repeatedly postponed. Tesla has reopened the acceptance of pre-orders, while the final technical specifications of the production version and prices have not yet been published by the manufacturer.

What it means

Tesla has reopened the acceptance of orders for the sports car in three configurations, however, the serial release is scheduled only for 2028, and the Rocket modification will not be allowed on public roads.
