The company Microsoft has presented a revamped search interface on the Windows 11 taskbar, which now supports direct execution of operating system commands.

Microsoft has presented an updated search for Windows 11. The company's head of the Windows division, Pavan Davuuluuri, reported on the search overhaul. The interface was rewritten on the WinUI 3 framework, thanks to which, according to the company's internal tests, the function has become faster and consumes less RAM.

The updated window has removed the right preview panel, combining the output into a single list, and also improved the recognition of queries with typos and synonyms. The main innovation was the support of quick actions: users can switch to dark theme, adjust microphone volume, turn on Bluetooth or activate the "Do not disturb" mode directly through the search bar without going to the system settings.

Testing of the function has started among participants of the Windows Insider program on the experimental channel in English. Later this year, developers plan to add a built-in file preview and ready answers from the network, and next year - integrate the new search into the "Start" menu and link it to the Copilot assistant.

What it means

Users of Windows 11 will be able to manage basic computer settings through the search bar on the taskbar without opening system settings; the update is already being distributed among Windows Insider program participants.
