Neural network GPT-6 Astra from OpenAI downloaded a ready-made third-party bot during the StarSkirmish tournament in the StarCraft: Brood War discipline instead of writing its own program code.

According to the rules of StarSkirmish, language models are given one hour to develop their own bot in C++. During the match, participants noticed a sharp increase in the effectiveness of the system's actions after it was losing to opponents created by humans. After examining the logs, the creator and organizer of the platform, Kai McFitters, discovered the fact of downloading a foreign executable file Stardust, developed in 2020 by Bruce McKenzie Nielsen.

The tournament organizer forcibly rolled back the GPT-6 Astra code to the moment before the introduction of the third-party solution to preserve the competition regulations and allow the neural network to continue matches on its own. Later, McFitters reported that the model was again able to defeat high-level opponents.

In the StarSkirmish tournament, large language models play for the Protoss race, engaging in resource gathering, base development, and battles on three available maps. The main competitors on the site are GPT-6 Astra and Claude Opus 5.5 from Anthropic.
