Two representatives of Uzbekistan, Javokhir Sindarov and Nodirbek Abdusattorov, have entered the top 5 of the world's strongest chess players in classical chess.

In the official rating of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) for October, Sindarov took fourth place with 2782 points, and Abdusattorov took fifth place with 2780 points. The leader of the world list remains Norwegian Magnus Carlsen (2823), in second place is American Hikaru Nakamura (2792), and the third line is occupied by Fabiano Caruana from the USA (2784).

Later, in the live rating, Sindarov rose to third place, overtaking Caruana after the American's defeat by Andy Woodward at the US Championship. At the same time, Abdusattorov retains fifth place in the live rating.

Abdusattorov's rise to fifth place in the official October FIDE rating was contributed by the gold on the first board at the Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, where the Uzbekistan team won. Previously, two Uzbekistan players simultaneously entered the world's top five chess players in April and June 2026.

What it means

The official FIDE list is updated on the first day of each month. The current rating was approved on October 1, and the next official release is scheduled for November 1.
