Uzbekistan team wins 46th World Chess Olympiad

The men's team of Uzbekistan became the winner of the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand and won the title of two-time Olympic champions. This is stated in the congratulations of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, published by the UzA agency.

During the competition, the Uzbek team defeated the teams of India, China and the USA. Nodirbek Abdusattorov completed the tournament without defeats and won the gold medal on the first board. Muhiddin Madaminov also performed without defeats, who was participating in this competition for the first time. The team also included Nodirbek Yakubboev, Javokhir Sindarov and Shamsiddin Vokhidov.

The women's team of Uzbekistan won seven matches out of eleven rounds and took 13th place in the tournament. The country's second team, led by Jakhongir Vokhidov, won victories over the teams of Spain, England and the Netherlands. The Uzbek chess team won the bronze medal in the team standings: Selbi took silver in the individual standings, Abdulaziz took bronze, and Akhadkhon passed the tournament without a single defeat.

The tournament was attended by almost 2 thousand chess players from more than 200 countries. The International Chess Federation (FIDE) recognized the Uzbekistan Chess Federation as the winner in the nomination "Best Federation" of 2026. Grandmaster Rustam Kasimdzhanov was elected honorary vice-president of FIDE, and Hulkar Tahirjanova - regional president of FIDE for Central Asian countries. In November 2026, Javokhir Sindarov will have a match for the title of world champion.
