Uzbekistan jointly with UNFPA develops "Demographic Dividend-2050" strategy

Uzbekistan plans to launch a demographic forecasting system and develop the "Demographic Dividend-2050" strategy in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). This was announced by the head of the Administration of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Saida Mirziyoeva.

The statement was made at a joint event with UNFPA on demographic sustainability in New York. As Saida Mirziyoeva noted, the young generation of the country will become a source of dividend provided that investments are made in the health, education, and safety of citizens, first and foremost children and women.

Within the framework of the partnership with the fund, three areas are planned: the launch of a permanent Demographic Stability and Human Capital Observatory by 2050, the creation of a national "First 1000 Days of Life" platform to coordinate medical care and social services for mothers and children under two years old, as well as the adoption of the "Demographic Dividend-2050" strategy itself. In addition, Uzbekistan proposed holding the Global Forum on Demographic Sustainability in 2028.

According to the data, by 2050, the population of the republic is expected to reach 58 million people, of which 33 million will be citizens of working age. Since 1989, the number of residents has almost doubled and exceeded 39 million people, with more than half of the population under 30 years old.
