The decrease in the level and flow of water in the Amudarya in the fall is a natural seasonal hydrological process, the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources of Uzbekistan reported.

The Ministry of Water Resources of Uzbekistan reacted to reports of the drying up of the Amudarya River that appeared on social media and stated that the water flow in the Amudarya continues. It is explained that in September and October, after the end of the vegetation season, reservoirs accumulate water for the needs of the next year.

According to the ministry's data as of October 9, 2026, at the entrance to the territory of Uzbekistan - the hydrological post "Termez" - the water level reached 239 centimeters. This figure is 27 centimeters higher than in the same period of 2025. At the Kerkin post, the water flow was 499 cubic meters per second, which is 63 cubic meters per second less than last year's value.

The Ministry of Water Resources also provided data on the Nurek reservoir in Tajikistan on the Vakhsh River, a tributary of the Amudarya. The total volume of accumulated water there is 10.54 billion cubic meters: the inflow is 408 cubic meters per second, and the discharge is 320 cubic meters per second.
