President: Uzbekistan's cotton harvest exceeds 5 million tonnes this year

According to the president, raw cotton was harvested this year before the onset of bad weather, despite the effects of climate change being felt more strongly than before. In recent years, as stated in the congratulatory message, cotton crop yields have increased 2.7 times: from 21 to 56 centners per hectare. The area allocated to this crop has been reduced by 38% in recent years, while water consumption has halved compared to the 1990s.

On nearly 400,000 hectares, the average yield reached 70 centners, and on roughly 70,000 hectares it reached 100–110 centners. Around a thousand farms and clusters produced 100 centners or more. In Jizzakh, Khorezm, Bukhara, Navoi, and Syrdarya regions, the figure exceeds 60 centners. In Karakalpakstan, yields grew by 10–15 centners compared to previous years, and the harvested volume exceeded 400,000 tonnes. Among the districts, Koson harvested the most at 110,000 tonnes.

The president also noted that 85% of this year's harvest was gathered mechanically, for which more than 3,000 cotton harvesters were deployed. For comparison, the message cites historical data: in the 1980s, about 2 million hectares were allocated to cotton with an average yield not exceeding 30 centners, while in 2000, 3 million tonnes were harvested from 1.4 million hectares.
